IoD Nigeria is a full fledged affiliate of the IoD U.k which was founded in London in 1903 and granted a Royal charter by King Edward VII in 1906. Some Nigeria members of the IoD UK formed IoD Nigeria in Lagos on 17th May, 1983. In 1997, the Council of the Institute, then a branch, sought autonomy and was granted affiliate status. IoD exists in many countries, mainly commonwealth countries, and offers members a network of over 85,000 members. The members are drawn from directors and business leaders in the public and private sectors and from a diversity of enterprises in Commerce, Industry, Services, Professional Bureaucracy etc.

IoD represents directors in their individual capacity and empowers them to contribute significantly to the welfare of the companies they run and to national development. IoD works to establish and maintain contact amongst business leaders at the highest levels and interfaces with government for the creation and entrenchment of favorably business friendly policies in seemingly challenging circumstances for the creation of wealth.

IoD can safely be described as a prime leadership forum in the organized private sector that helps directors to fulfill their legal and professional responsibilities for the benefit of business and society as a whole. It is a full member of the IoD international Network.

VISION

IoD Nigeria will continually advance professional competence, integrity and enterprise.

MISSION

"To be the prime organisation in Nigeria helping directors to fulfill their leadership responsibilities in creating wealth for the benefit of business and society as a whole."

OBJECTIVES

  • The Institute of Directors Nigeria, the prime Organisation in Nigeria, is involved in promoting professionalism through continuous education, information sharing, networking of opportunities and positive contribution to the socio-economic growth of Nigeria.
  • It attracts eligible directors to join the Institute, thereby enhancing professional standards, promoting competence and celebrating excellence at individual and corporate levels.
  • It presents a formidable front in affairs of the national economy and promotes an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
  • As the most populous African country, and bearing in mind that the IoD, UK has no immediate plans to increase the IoD branches in Africa beyond the present three (Nigeria, South Africa, and Zimbabwe). IoD Nigeria has the task of maintaining the integrity and good image of business leadership the rest of Africa and worldwide.

DIRECTOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES & TRAINING

The Institute continues to be a good reference point on issues that border on Director Development.

Two editions of the two-day Company Direction Course were held in 2006. The course, which is conducted in collaboration with Lagos Business School has remained the flagship programme of the Institute.

The two day Company Direction course is now mandatory for all new members and has continued to garner more patronage from members and non-members from different parts of the country. Through consistent feedbacks from participants at the Course that holds twice a year, the IoD standards have been maintained as expected.
Our Gallery is in the making.
